“Israel’s Supreme Court has approved the building of an elevator next to Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque on Thursday, which only Israeli settlers will be allowed to use.”
Imad Hamdan, director of the Hebron Rehabilitation Committee “said that while Israel claims that the purpose of the elevator is to make the site more accessible, the real intention was to take over as much of the area as possible in the courtyard of the mosque for the use of Israeli settlers.”
“The Wye River Agreement of 1996 divided the mosque between Jews and Muslims. In 1994, an Israeli settler, Baruch Goldstein, massacred 29 Palestinian worshippers there.”
